Allie X

It's been interesting watching the career of Foxes recently. She seemed to struggle to follow up smash hit 'Youth' with a similar vibe and quality. I found her image and make-up in the song 'Let It Go For Tonight' to be a cliche and not reflective of her personality.

Her recent fashion collaboration with H&M was good though and new tune 'Body Talk' is decent. Anyway to get to the point Canadian singer Allie X reminds me of Foxes!

An atmospheric voice and evocative lyrics are reflected in 'Catch'.

"My hands are tied behind my back.
I'm paralysed, my heart attacks.
It seemed to me you were the one.
Turns out you shot me up for fun."

"Thought you got away with murder.
Left me at a loss for the words.
Just wait until I catch my breath.
Wait until I catch my breath".
Love hurts!
Heartbreak is a common theme reflected in 'Tumor'.
"When this is over, I'll need a surgery
Cause you were a tumor
You'll leave a hole inside of me
It’s high risk, not hopeless, I'm conscious
When this is over, when this is over
I'll still be letting it grow".

Damn those cheats causing huge NHS waiting lists for tumor removals!

Loving the lace and the red lipstick.

Like Quasimodo she believes in 'Sanctuary'. Another good tune.

Synth-pop can be excellent when done like this and by artists such as Chvrches.

Make a spectacle of yourself.
What's causing the freaky shadow? Godzilla or another pointless re-make?
I want some fed up glasses too.
These are from the wistful/bored range.
Alas the excruciating wait for the ASOS parcels.

Finally
Grab a kwl tee on Allie's current US tour.

The Staves

Some trends last too long don't they? The whole Europop and electronic dance domination of the charts has incredulously been getting worse lately. That takes some doing considering how many mediocre tunes have been cranked out for meaningless hits.
What was once seen as Pitbull's game has now been joined by artists such as Neyo, Usher and it is very disappointing to see Emeli Sande and Haim team up with Calvin Harris recently. They should be the antidote to banal musicality not the latest recruits.
Let us all escape from the bland, empty lyrics with a little bit of folk rock provided by The Staves. The trio of sisters have soft melodic voices reminiscent of Norah Jones for me.

'Mexico' is a good place to start.

Their second album 'If I Was' was released last month and reached number 14 in the album charts.

Working with Bon Iver on their second album has seen great reviews with a new-found boldness in the music style gaining particular credit.
The girls were recently featured in a cool article in the Guardian about how to rock the 70s trend in the style of your mum. Camilla described her mum as having a less tamed version of Farah Fawcett's look.

Say Lou Lou

Now I used to love Icona Pop. 'I love it' was a great anthem but having seen them live supporting Katy Perry I found the 'let's sing every single word together' vibe quickly jarring. Say Lou Lou harmonies are much easier on the ear!
The twins released their first single in 2012.

2014 hit 'Everything we touch' is brilliant.

Their retro styling has drawn comparisons to Abba and the 70s vibe does seem to suit them. Gucci Style

Topshop campaign 2013
The Vogue UK shoot was a chance for Elektra and Miranda to bring the glam.

This is another great tune.

The Real Slim Shadys
Maison Kitsune style.
Thank God! Someone who doesen't do boho at a festival.

Finally
Debut album 'Lucid Dreaming' is out the 23rd February.

Indiana

"I go dancing by myself
I go dancing with no one else
Solo dancing push me as I go
I go dancing it's so intense
I will dance till the bitter end
No point in asking
Cause I always dance alone
Hypnotized by a lot of emotion
Music stop and the spell is broken
I go dancing by myself"

Don't be invading Indiana's dance space y'all!
Can't a girl just dance without being pestered?!

I'm not massively into trip hop electronica but I do like that song. Indiana is 27 year old Lauren Henson and she describes her music as 'menacing and atmospheric' ( a bit like my local bars).

Her influences include the XX, Frank Ocean and Gary Numan.
'Heart On Fire' is another album highlight.

Finally
Indiana's debut album is out 2nd February

Rae Morris

I love a good singer songwriter. Past favourites include Bat for Lashes and Lianne La Havas. Rae Morris is lighting up my iPod with her emotional, eclectic and catchy tunes.
Rae's debut album 'Unguarded' has been 3 years in the making and is out 26th January.

'Closer' is fab example of her sad-tinged love songs.

Fashion
Lots of potential here. Trendy little crop top and pants.
Saint Laurent vibes
Dress up that hoodie!
Flip reverse that denim!
This has more flare.

"Your voice isn't kind when we talk
You walk away when we talk
And your lips, they go blue with your thoughts
You never really cared what I thought"

'Cold' is a brilliant song.

Kwl shirt! Remember to coordinate your shirt with your eye colour and bottle top (devil is in the detail).
More pearls than Coco
Graffiti Goth. Interesting trend!
"Bismillah! We will not let you go!"
There's a bit in the film Theory of Everything where poor Stephen Hawkings has to do this before painfully getting to his feet at the bottom.

Ooh!
Aah!
Cantona!
I can't recall her name but her 'fez' is familiar.
Rae is touring the UK throughout February.

Finally
"Give me one good reason why I should never make a change".
